FLASH!  The Johnson City Library is planning a series of museum tours. We want to take a groups to see history and fine art museums in the area during the summer months and take sack lunches to eat after a morning of visiting and discussing exhibits. Our first tour in the month of June will be to the Blanton Fine Art Museum in Austin. The Blanton will be featuring "A Century of Grace", a collection of European masterworks that demonstrate the power and beauty of the human figure and its importance in nineteenth-century art. In addition, the museum will also be featuring a collection of master drawings from Yale University. We are planning a trip to the Blanton on either June 28th. We plan to charter a bus, so we would like to hear from you if you would like to attend this museum tour so we can plan for appropriate space on the tour. This tour will be free, but we will ask that all bring a sack lunch that we will eat together at one of the parks close to the UT campus. Please feel free to forward this email to any whom you think may be interested in participating in this tour with us. I look forward to hearing from you.

August 13th - Witte Museum to visit the Leonardo da Vinci exhibit

Sept. 16th - Bus tour of the Painted Churches of South Texas

October 13th - Bus tour to the Zilker Park Botanical Gardens and the Umlauf Sculpture Garden in Austin.

See more details on the Calendar page.

Library Launches New After-School Enrichment Program: The Johnson City Library is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Johnson City School District that will provide enrichment opportunities for students this fall. The new Library program will be called the Discovery Academy and begin to offer courses to 3rd and 4th grade students emphasizing math and science. Classes will be available on Tuesday and Thursday starting at 3:30pm until 5:15pm. All students entering the 3rd and 4th grades this year are encouraged to register at the Library. A $25 supply fee will be charged per semester; however, scholarships will be offered if needed.

The Fall 2007 semester for the Discovery Academy will explore the following themes: Inventions, Chemistry, Light, and Engineering. Math and science concepts will be introduced in a fun and stimulating way, with as much hands-on activities as possible. Enrollment will be limited to space allowed for three classrooms, which will be instructed by Jan Garrett, Lynn Miller, and Phyllis Woods. Parents interested in obtaining more information about this new Library program are encouraged to contact Chris Voron @ 868-7515 or email chris@johnsoncitylibrary.org
